Anemia During Pregnancy

Pregnancy and VitaminsHemoglobin is a component of red blood cells, which carries oxygen in the body from respiratory organs to tissues and is involved in the carbon dioxide transfer from the tissues to the respiratory system. A lot of women suffer from low hemoglobin level or anemia during pregnancy. The normal level of hemoglobin is 120-140 grams per liter and normally, during pregnancy, it reduced by the end of the second trimester. If the hemoglobin level reduced before 24 weeks of pregnancy, it means that you have anemia.

The causes of anemia may be different: lack of iron, folic acid, copper, zinc, as well as disbacteriosis and nerve stresses. The symptoms of anemia, caused by the lack of iron in the blood, are fatigue, constant tiredness and reduced emotional tone. Shortness of breath, tachycardia, hypomyotonia, lack of appetite, indigestion, and stomatitis, hair and nails breaking, dry skin, lip cyanosis, frequent respiratory infections may indicate a shortage of iron in the body.

Low hemoglobin during pregnancy can lead to the fetus iron deficiency and slowing of his growth and development, this also may increases the risk of developing preeclampsia, complications during labor (weak labor, premature birth).

If you’ve noticed any of these symptoms you must consult a doctor at once, in this case he may prescribe pills, containing iron. Do not forget about the benefits of outdoor exercise, breathing exercises and gymnastics. Plus, you have to keep a special diet, eating products with high level of iron; this will help you to achieve the desired result.

Your diet must include such products:

1. Meat Products: kidneys, heart, fish, chicken, tongue (to maintain the normal hemoglobin level you can eat 50 grams of boiled beef tongue daily), white chicken meat.

2. Cereals: buckwheat, rye, beans, lentils, peas, oatmeal.

3. Vegetables and greens: tomatoes, potatoes, onions, pumpkins, beets, mustard, dandelion leaves, spinach, parsley.

4. Fruits: red / green apples, plums, bananas, pomegranates, pears, peaches, apricots (dried apricots), persimmon, quince.

5. Berries: black currant and cranberry, strawberry and blueberry.
